How Much Weed Can You Buy in Maine?

Maine uses one combined adult-use limit for flower, concentrate, and other cannabis products. The concentrate amount is part of—not added on top of—the total.

Is the purchase limit the same as the possession limit?

For ordinary adult-use purchases, yes. Maine law prohibits a cannabis store from selling more than the personal adult-use limits in a single transaction, and adults 21 or older may possess up to the same 2.5-ounce combined amount away from the place where they lawfully grow cannabis.

The home-grow exception is different: at the adult's residence or cultivation location, Maine law permits possession of all cannabis produced by that adult's lawful plants. Once cannabis leaves that location, the ordinary 2.5-ounce possession limit applies.

How do flower, concentrates, and edibles count?

• Flower and pre-rolls: count toward the 2.5-ounce combined total.
• Concentrates and vape oil: count toward the total and cannot exceed 10 grams of concentrate.
• Edibles and infused products: count through Maine's product-equivalency rules. The retail system calculates the equivalent amount for the cart.
• Mixed purchases: do not create separate limits for each category. A cart can combine products only up to the equivalent of the single legal maximum.

There is no separate statewide rule allowing another 100 milligrams of edible THC after a shopper has reached the combined limit. If a menu or older article gives different concentrate or edible figures, ask the licensed store to confirm the current equivalency calculation before checkout.

Can you visit another dispensary the same day?

Maine's store rule applies to each individual sales transaction, but the possession limit applies to what you possess. Visiting more than one store does not authorize you to carry more than 2.5 ounces total, including no more than 10 grams of concentrate. Buying again while already at the possession limit can put you over the legal limit.

Can you gift cannabis in Maine?

Maine law allows limited transfers without remuneration to another adult age 21 or older. Selling home-grown or purchased cannabis—or tying a transfer to money, services, donations, admission, or another thing of value—is not a gift. Review the transfer language in 28-B M.R.S. §1501 before relying on this exception.

Do tourists have the same adult-use limit?

Yes. Maine adult-use stores serve adults 21 or older who present acceptable government-issued photo identification; Maine residency is not required. Tourists have the same purchase and possession limits and the same ban on public consumption. Cannabis cannot legally cross state lines or the international border.

What changes for medical cannabis patients?

Medical purchases follow Maine's medical-use law rather than the adult-use retail statute. Maine qualifying patients and approved visiting patients have separate documentation and transaction rules. Bring an unexpired, government-issued photo ID showing you are at least 21.
